Fabulous Fabric Finds

I am always on the lookout for new resources, and especially ones that are affordable and that not many people have clued into yet... I can't help it, I love to have something in my back pocket that no one else knows about, because I love to see the surprised/delighted look on their face when I tell them about my fabulous find! It's a simple pleasure, I know, and a silly one at that, but it's my simple little silly pleasure!

So, I'll just have to imagine all of your surprised/delighted looks when you read about my Fabulous Fabric Find! Earlier this summer I was downtown (or uptown? still don't get it) driving around one morning and was trying to find a fabric store that I didn't realize had gone out of business. Somehow on my Tom Tom there is a way to see all the businesses anywhere close to where you are, and guess what, staring right back at me from that little screen was the name, David Rothschild Fabric Outlet. Yes, OUTLET. And there was my first surprised/delighted look of the day.

You see, although Columbus, Georgia was once home to some big time fabric mills, for some reason there just aren't alot of options out there for decorative home decor fabrics at outlet pricing. Until now! Well, let me rephrase... this place has been here for far longer than now, it's not new, it's just new to me.

According to their website, David Rothschild Co. is an Upholstery Fabric Manufacturer. They have a textile mill in North Carolina, but their corporate offices are here in Columbus, GA. Just when I thought that fabric mills had all moved overseas (or at least that was what I was told... note to self - independently verify all information from here on out) here is this little gem!

A peek inside revealed several racks of fabric by the roll, all priced under $10/yard! They carry outdoor and commercial grade fabrics as well, but specialize in upholstery weight fabrics.

My absolute favorite part of this store is the Dollar Cart. That's just what I named it, but it's an antique cart - probably from when the textile mill was here in the late 1800's or early 1900's and everything on it is a buck.

Dollar Cart - so exciting!

Yes, this is only $1 per yard! Incredible!

Another great find for $1/ yd!

I want to own this! I wonder if I could make him an offer...

Oh, and do not, do not miss the antique steamer trunk filled with 24" square swatches that you can pick up for $.50 each! Not as great of a deal as the Dollar Cart, but more patterns and colors to choose from. Plus, they are already square - instant pillows!

The sky blue and tan/mocha color plaid swatches I took home on this trip.
Pics of even more fabulous pillows soon to follow!

I love this cabinet. I want to take it home! The colors of the thread look so artistic in here. I know it wasn't meant to be decorative, but it looks awesome. I've got to get my DSLR fixed so I can get some better artsy shots of this stuff!

The gorgeous fabric below is what I purchased for my mom a few months ago on my first trip in. I bought it to recover her dining room chairs. I'll have to get some pics of that project next time I head north. At only $9.95/yd it too is a steal! Oh, and it comes in three colorways! Fabulous!

I fell in love with this bee print. So elegant! I have towels in my master bath that have a very similar bee on it, and I just LOVE them! This has a little blue and yellow to it, very easy to dress up or down, this would make a great skirted stool for your master bath vanity, or some toss pillows for the bed. These smaller more spread out prints look best on larger items. Again, a steal at $6.95/yd!

Find out more about the history of the company here.

He asked if I wanted a picture of us, so I thought, hey, why not? This is why I love what I do... I get to take my kids with me (not always a great choice, but I love spending the time with them) I get to make my own schedule, and find great things that I can't wait to share with you! It's fun. I can't lie, I love it.

I can't help it, I love fabric!
