Glass Drill Bit |
Step 1: Drill the hole for the cord
I used some masking tape here... I couldn't find this in instructions anywhere but I feel like way back when a long time ago when I had done something like this before, someone told me to use masking tape, so I thought, hmmm... might not hurt!
Step 2: Thread the cord through the bottle
Step 3: Fill bottle with corks, sand, shells, etc.
(side note- if using sand you may have to seal the hole to prevent sand from spilling out)
Step 4: Follow instructions for lamp assembly. Good Luck.
You may need the wine from the bottle at this point...
(side note #2: did you know that what we tend to call lamps are really called luminaires and the lamp is actually the bulb that we put in it? Some interior design factoids for ya!)
Step 6: Wrap cord in jute twine so it's not so noticable. I picked the twine since I had it on hand, any natural material, or something that coordinates with the contents of your bottle will work. I secured the twine with hot glue, being very careful not to get any twine near any part of the lamp that might get hot.
Voila! Bottle Lamp!
P.S. I still need to paint that pedestal white! Next week... :)

LOVE this idea! So cute with the corks!
Love this lamp! I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now but haven't found a lamp kit anywhere around my small hometown. When I do I will share with you! Pottery Barn is such an inspiration to us all! Love them and your blog!

Very pretty lamp. I like that you filled it with wine corks, very unique. I made a lamp out of a whiskey bottle awhile back and we used a diamond tip drill bit with great results. Here's the page - http://afishwholikesflowers.blogspot.com/2011/04/super-secret-birthday-project-revealed.html
I love this lamp.
do you know where your bottle came from/what it originally had in it? i rescued one from a neighbor's recycling that looks exactly like yours & i'd love to get another to make into a pair of lamps. thanks!
Lindsey, it is a wine bottle and I think the brand is Livingston. I'd love to see your lamps when you are done!
thanks alison! you'd think i'd remember as i soaked the label off the old one :) i pinned your tutorial & will send a link if i ever get the lamps done! thanks again!
