Sometimes It's Just The Little Things...

So the title of my blog post today can best describe my life for the past two weeks! I have had MAJOR stuff going on. Moving to a new house was in and of itself a huge task, so when the "little things" started popping up, they made me want to cry!

Thankfully, I had some great help in the form of my mom, and amazing people from my church family to help me.

This past week, the little things that made me want to cry were:

1. Water spraying out at me from the washing machine hook-up
2. Water spraying out at me from the dishwasher hose.
3. Water leaking into the basement from a leak I had already paid to have fixed
4. Trash all over my front yard from not remembering to put the lid on the can and animals got into it
5. Spilling half a can of paint all over the back of the moving truck, and having it tracked inside on brand new carpet
6. Pulling over a dozen ticks off the bellys of my dogs (did I mention that this was a move to the country?)
7. Having to take my dog to the emergency vet at 10:30 on Sunday night because she had two huge gashes on the back of her legs

That's about one a day. I'm not sure I could have handled much more than that. No, I don't have pictures to illustrate any of the above. Well, I do, but I really don't want to re-live it, so no pics, sorry!

However, sometimes it's just the little things that can turn your day around and make it a little easier to deal with all that stuff being thrown at you!

Here are some of my "little things" in the GOOD category this week!

Ikea trip! I mentioned that my mom was here, but my awesome brother also came to help me move and to spend some time with his nephews, and after dropping him at the Atlanta airport on Saturday, I HAD to drive the 10 more miles to Ikea! It was a madhouse, and traffic was terrible. Who closes southbound on ramps to I-75 on a Saturday afternoon during tax return shopping season?!?!?!

Anyways, it was a great car ride to Atlanta with my brother (some uninterrupted convo) and then a good trip to Ikea. I don't have pics of what I got, but I scored a great (almost) 5x7 rug for only $20, and some storage solutions for the new place!

A pedicure with a friend - not just getting my toes done, but getting to catch up too, awesome!
I also got a new haircut - pictures to follow, so stay tuned!

I printed off my coupons, planned my shopping trip and saved more than I spent! I know this may sound a little silly to some of you, but I had a major sense of accomplishment after I was done getting my list planned! I was a little surprised by how much satisfaction it gave me! I haven't been able to do my regular couponing in a while, and it bums me out to go to the store without coupons now, because I know how much money I am wasting!

I got our taxes filed! Again, maybe a little silly to some of you, but taxes make my head spin! Just knowing what documents you need, and what you need to request vs. what is sent to you automatically is overwhelming for me! Plus, we use the free tax service they offer on post to active duty military, but just getting to the place to file them, with all the construction going on, is a HUGE headache. So, needless to say this was a BIG time accomplishment, and when the money gets here, that will be even better!

I found an amazing deal on Craigslist for a new refirigerator! Not brand new, but gently used, and new to us, this baby was less than half it's original price paid for it, and has all the bells and whistles!

Got the new hardware for the kitchen cabinets! I was clued into a wholesale company by a friend that is a contractor. I used his cash account and got some amazing quality hardware at less than half the price you would pay at Lowe's or Home Depot.  I've only gotten the drawer pulls on so far, since the hinges for the doors are on back order and I'm not going to attempt the knobs without the doors being on first, but this is a great start, and as I said, sometimes, it really is the little things!
