DIY Wine Linky Party!

I have found some great wine crafts out there, and I can't wait to share mine with you!

Make sure you link up below to share your DIY Wine Crafts/Drink recipes/Bar Projects with everyone!

First, the Cork Art

This is the "BEFORE" - boards I found for $1 each at Goodwill. I liked the edges and knew I could do something with them!

Next, I dug out my wine cork collection and, using a very sharp knife, very carefully, I cut each cork down the center.

I hit each board with a light sand, then a coat of matte black spray paint. I arranged the corks and hot glued them down, one at a time. Since the boards were originally wall hangings, I didn't need to add anything!

Next, the Wine Bags

I had a little inspiration from the December Wisteria catalog, and here is the inspiration photo:

Here is mine:

And the instructions:

I used a canvas dropcloth and cut it 26" x 7" since I knew I wasn't going to finish (hem) the top.

I folded in half to determine where the bottom would be, and first stenciled the letters on and painted them prior to sewing anything. The paint will most likely bleed through a little, so make sure to protect your work surface.

After the paint was dry, I folded the right sides together and sewed up each side.

The next step was to make a mitred bottom. The easiest way for me was to cut the seam allowances at the fold, almost right up to the stitch, so that when I folded it at the seam, I could iron flat.

Pull the points apart and then measure in 1" from each point, and sew a seam to create a triangle.

Cut triangle off with scissors, leaving a 1/2" seam allowance.

Poke holes every inch, about 5" down from the top of the bag. These will be the holes for your drawstring.

Cut two lengths of string or rope (I used hemp twine) about 20" long. String one through the holes starting on the right and going all the way around the bag so that the two ends meet on the right side again. Starting with the other length, string this through the same holes, this time, starting on the left, and going all the way through all the holes on the bag (front and back) so that the two ends of this string meet each other on the left. Tie each string into a knot, add your favorite bottle of wine, and you have a great homemade gift!

Valentines Mantle

These fun little hearts were super easy to make! I cut out three hearts, the same size and just ran a line of glue down the center, then folded the hearts back. I placed the twine in between 1 layer of the hearts as I was making them so that I could hang them. I added red beads to some to give them a little weight so they would hang straighter.

The Kissing Ball from this post is shown below along with a black and white picture of my oldest from the beach at Tybee Island when we lived in Savannah. The frame was already red, I stole it from the kids bathroom for this!

The white, shabby chic frame was a $3, yes, $3! Thrift shop find from when I lived in Savannah. Most, if not every military post has a thrift shop where you can consign items or donate, and alot of times when people get ready to move, they shed some great stuff that you can pick up on the cheap!

The frame has nothing inside it most of the time and I ususally hang it on the wall as part of a larger collage, then hang other frames inside it. For this project, I cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the opening, covered with red tissue paper and taped to the back of the frame to hold in place.

I made this 3D heart in a similar way to the ones above, only I laid the base flat and glued each of the other two on at an angle so they would pop off the page. These are just regular printer paper and I used a red sharpie to make the stitch lines. On the two that I knew were going to stick out, I drew the lines on one side and then retraced them on the other.

The subway art below is my very own creation and you can print one for free here!

And this lovely little pedestal/cloche is one that I made and you can see the full tutorial here.
I added a red candle (leftover from Christmas) and a necklace I had and voila! Valentines mantle made completely from items I already had around the house. Total cost = $0! Time spent = less than an hour to assemble, about 1 hr on the kissing ball, 15 minutes on the subway art, and 30 minutes on the heart ornaments!

Here it is for ya one more time!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentines Day Kissing Ball {tutorial}

In working on my Valentines Day Mantle for The Stories of A to Z linky party, I wanted to use this cute little urn I found during one of my thrifting trips! I had used this on my Winter Mantle and wanted to dress it up a little for V-day!

So, on to the much anticipated tutorial!

The first step is to gather your materials:

1 sheet of Tissue paper (I chose red and didn't even use 1 sheet)
Pencil with eraser
Styrofoam Ball
Glue gun (or Elmers, but it's much messier I think)

First, rip 1 inch strips of tissue paper, then rip into 1 inch squares.

Next, take the squares and place on the tip of the eraser, then twist around the tip of the pencil.

Now, take a little dot of glue on the end of the tissue paper and then press down on the styrofoam ball. Repeat all over the ball until it's covered. Yes, this is time consuming, but if you aren't putting this on a stick in a topiary, or hanging it, you can get away with leaving a little blank, like I did below!

I drew a line with a pencil around where the ball would sit in the urn. I then flipped it upside down and followed that line. I ended up going a little past so that it would sit a little higher in the urn. I love how it turned out! Stay tuned to see it with my Valentine's Mantle!

Free Printable Valentine's Subway Art

Ok, so I have seen subway art all over the blog-o-sphere (I feel like I can use those fancy terms, ya know?) And so since my fah-bu-lous interior design education included some dabbling in Photoshop, I have a little fun with it every now and again! (didya catch my inpiration board here? Photoshop love baby!)

I am not really all that internet/bloggy/tech savvy at all, so this is a little test for me. I sized it 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" to fit into a 8 x 10 frame with just a little trimming. I saved it for the web, so it's a gif. Aside from that, I have no idea (other than right click to save, print, etc.) how you guys are going to do with it printing the correct size. So, here it is, I hope you enjoy it, and can use it, and I'd love to hear how it goes with the printing/saving/size thing!

Happy V day!

Fabulous Finds: Thrift Shop

Crazy Daizy

Ok, so I've been doing ALOT of thrifting lately! It's much fun, and I really love the "hunt". As I scroll through design websites and thumb through decor magazines and drool, I can't help but get all kinds of ideas and inspiration starts bouncing around in my head, and I wanna make some changes, like NOW.

So, I was out scouting today and the place I had planned on visiting had closed! BOO! (Of course I had already parked next to the building, got the little monster out of his seat in 26 degree weather and whipping winds, only to walk down the sidewalk and see it empty. NICE) So, I thought I would just drive around and maybe the GPS gods would smile on me and I would discover a fabulous new bargain hunting spot. Ha. What was I thinking? Seriously? When does that ever happen?

Yup, you guessed it. It didn't. Well, not exactly. After about 30 minutes of driving all over places in Columbus I never knew existed and am sure I will NEVER return to, I decided to hit up an old faithful so that my morning was not a total waste of gas and time. You'll remember The Attic from this post. So I headed that way and wasn't disappointed. I found a finial I couldn't live without:

And a great footed hurricane that was half price! Score! Too bad when I got home I transferred the bag with the finial in it over to the hand that had the bag with the hurricane in it and smash! In the cold I guess it was just to fragile. AAARRGGHHH! I was major disappointed, and then just had to remind myself, hey, it's only stuff. still. I wasn't too happy.

Ok, so onto the best part of the day! As I was leaving The Attic I looked across the street and saw this little gem!

So, I ventured inside, and, although small, the owner was amazing, and I found some FAH.BU.LOUS stuff! Tina Rexach is the woman behind Crazy Daizy and she is so awesome about making deals and helping you to find what you're looking for! Ok, ok, I won't keep you waiting, check out what I found!

Cute, unfinished wine rack with removable X inserts. No visual inspiration for this one, however I'm thinking turn it 90 degrees, add some feet (purchased at HD or Lowes) and call it a sofa table - genius!

Tina made this! A fellow crafter! A candlestick and a birdhouse, too cute...  And she has a few!

Cute little birdies (she let me in on the little secret that she found them at the Dollar store - he he!) They work great for display with the birdhouses.

Vintage suitcases that I would have snatched in a heartbeat, but alas, they were not for sale!

Artichoke tealight holders - tagged at $5 for the set of 3, I got em for $2 for the set! Score!
Here they are below on my dining room table:

A few jewelry pieces I picked up... again, marked for between $5 and $6 each, I got all three for $5! I love a bargain!

There was so much cute stuff, I could have bought it all! But I held back... now I'm asking why!?!?! But I'll be back again! Oh, and P.S. she buys stuff too, so when you are doing your decrapifying, take the cute stuff over there, and see if she'll give you a lil extra spending money for it!
